The Artist

Drawing the spirit of your companion

Every portrait is hand-drawn in my Ayrshire studio, capturing the quiet depth and soft texture of the animals who share our lives.

A Personal Connection

Meet Jaz Melville, Pet Portrait Artist in Ayrshire

Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Having shared my home with dogs throughout the years, I understand the bond we have with our pets and how completely they become part of our families.

From my studio on the Ayrshire coast, I create hand-drawn pet portraits in soft pastel and graphite pencil, working from your favourite photographs. I’m drawn to the personality behind the eyes: the playful spark, gentle expression or knowing look that you recognise instantly.

Soft pastels let me build colour and texture layer by layer, while graphite brings out character through delicate shading and contrast. Whichever medium you choose, I pay close attention to the familiar markings and expressions that make your pet yours.

Each portrait takes care, patience and a love of animals. My aim is to create a personal piece of art that holds something of the companion you know and love.

The Ayrshire Studio

Where tactile art begins

Tucked away on the beautiful Ayrshire coast, my studio is a place of quiet focus. Here, under natural daylight, reference photographs are translated into physical, textured portraits.

There are no digital shortcuts or synthetic filters here. Every portrait is built stroke by stroke, layer by layer, in a space dedicated entirely to the traditional craft of pastel and graphite painting.

Surrounded by the landscapes and wildlife that inspire much of my work, each portrait is created slowly and thoughtfully. Layer by layer, I focus on capturing not only the detail of your pet's appearance, but also the expression, character and little spark that makes them uniquely theirs.
